Chow Hound

HouseFinch

Perhaps you've noticed that after I have a serious blog post I often follow up with one that's more whimsical. I think it may be my subconscious bringing me into balance.

I got eyeball to eyeball with this little Finch using a 400mm lens. He didn't seem to be bothered by me, nor was he concerned about displaying his poor table manners.

This is a great shot!! --- 400mm huh? I might have to add one of those to my list of lenses to get (which is about 6 lenses long right now...)

--- and as for humorous follow ups, a little comedic relief never hurt anybody.

Hahaha. Jay, don't let me be a bad influence on you! The price of a 400mm 2.8 is nasty. I actually rented it for a week for an assignment I had. If I had purchased it, my wife would have put me up for adoption.

You can rent those? Haha, I looked at buying one, and it was over 2 grand. I'm too young for my husband to divorce me over financial decisions.

Awesome shot, Dan!
Where did you rent the lens from? Do you mind sharing the link?
I usually rent from lensrentals.com...they're not bad.

Hey Ron,
The lens wasn't "technically" a rental. When I need something I don't have, I get it from NPS (Nikon Professional Services). I understand there is a similar group for Canon (CPS). There is no charge for the lens, but in the case of NPS, you need to pay FedEx shipping both ways. To join NPS, you need to be a working pro. You also need to submit three samples of published work. Don't know what the Canon requirements would be, but I'm sure you would qualify.
